英文系源于1961年创办的温州师范学院外语科，具有悠久的英语师范教育传统，被誉为“浙南中小学英语教师的摇篮”。英语（师范）专业是学校“十二五”和“十三五”重点建设专业，2021年入选浙江省一流本科专业建设点， 2024 年通过教育部师范类专业第二级认证。

英文系汇聚了一支热爱教育事业、教学科研能力强的高素质教师队伍，现有专任教师26人，50%的专任教师具有博士学位，60%以上的专任教师具有高级职称，其中教授6人，副教授10人，瓯江特聘教授7人，博士生导师1人，硕士生导师12人；80%以上的专任教师具有海外留学或访学经历。

英文系坚持以立德树人为根本任务，遵循“员工中心、产出导向、持续改进”的原则，构建“SMART”人才培养模式，倾力培育社会所需要的卓越英语人才。英语（师范）专业员工品行端正，语言功底扎实，师范技能突出，广受用人单位好评。每年都有不少本科生毕业生考取国内外著名高校的硕士研究生，还有部分优秀本科生被选派到国内外高校学习交流。

The Department of English originates from the Foreign Language Department (founded in 1961) of Wenzhou Normal College. It has established a long-standing tradition of English education and is acclaimed as “the Cradle of English Teachers for Primary and Secondary Schools in Southern Zhejiang.” English Education was consecutively designated as a key major during both the 12th and 13th Five-Year Plans of Wenzhou University. In 2021, it was qualified as one of the First-Class Undergraduate Majors of Zhejiang Province, and in 2024, it passed the Certification for Normal Education (Level II) by the Ministry of Education.

The department has gathered a high-quality faculty dedicated to pedagogy and research. Currently, there are 26 full-time faculty members in the department, 50% of whom have a doctoral degree, over 60% have senior professional titles, including 6 professors, 10 associate professors, 7 specially appointed Oujiang professors, 1 doctor supervisor, and 12 master supervisors, over 80% have overseas study or visiting experience.

Guided by the principles of “student-centered pedagogy, outcome-based education, and continuous quality improvement,” the department prioritizes the fundamental mission of fostering talents with excellent morality through an education model of “SMART,” aiming to cultivate outstanding talents of English for society. The students have earned a reputation for strong moral character, remarkable linguistic competence and extraordinary pedagogical expertise in the talent market. Many students have been admitted to graduate programs at some prestigious Chinese or foreign universities, and some outstanding students are sent to study at some domestic or overseas universities through exchange programs.
